November 2009 - Teresa Daly led a breakout session on Leadership & Legacy at the YMCA Leaders conference in November. She talked about how organizations and executives have to think differently about leadership today. Great leadership is more than achieving success on the organizational ladder. Truly great leaders of today continue to perform beyond the ‘corner office’. They continue to leverage their executive stature by serving on boards, teaching at universities, or writing books. They lead foundations or non-profit organizations. They break new ground in philanthropic endeavors and promote civic agendas.
In the end, today is a new day for leadership development. Leaders who limit their growth to building skills and achieving success will ultimately find themselves stagnant and without a plan for the chapter beyond the corner office. This session will focus on how we need to think differently about leadership and will offer guidance and tools for how to plan the next chapter.
